Homework for Jan 11, 2011

1) I totally disagree. If ALL people of Vietnam are equal to each other in every singles way, there would still be a problem. First of all, female and male, if ALL people are equal, there would be only one gender. How can we reproduce? If we can even come up with a way to reproduce, there with still be differences in age. Still not equal. If there everyone is equal, who'll help if we're in need? How can we have a lively life, since there won't be any entertainment, like in Harrison Bergeron, no dancer, musician, or anyone is better than ordinary people.

2) For me, the only way for a world of everyone being equal to others, the world would be:
-time paused
-people don't do any single thing
-no rules and government
-no sense of power
Laws for that:
None, because then, we will have a sense of power for who will punish those who do not follow the rules.

3)For those less capable mentally, (I guess you mean not smart enough, mental disorder), I would try to make them smarter and help those who are mentally disorder be in order again with helps of experts.

For those less capable physically, I just make them have work-outs and help them be physically catch-up with the others. Those who are disable and handicapped, I can't help :(

For those less capable socially, I'll help them to open their mind a bit. I'll try to be open to them first.

4) What I foresee is:
- Rebellious - I guess I can use armies against them.
- No progress making - Maybe there shouldn't be, sometimes just what you already have is enough

5) Total equality is impossible. Whatever we try, people will always have their unique traits. Those would initiate unequal ways people treating others and doing other things.

6) 1st: Harrison with the red ball stick to his nose make me think of Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer.
2nd: The Stage with the ballerinas made me think of the High School Musical 1.
3rd: Harrison and his queen danced made me think of the cartoon Beauty and the Beast
4th: The head of the H-G men holding the shotgun really made me think of the scene in a cartoon called Ratatouille where an old lady use a shotgun to shoot mice.

2 main problem and solutions

2 main problems for the Mayan, which led to their catastrophe were:
1.Over populated
2.Slash-and-burn farming

Solutions for these problem, for us are:
1. Reduce the amount of birthrate.
2. Change type of farming from slash-and-burn. Also, instead of just eat things from farming, also eat meat. They could herd and fishing. They can also do hunting.

Tuesday Advertising Hwk

Q1) When we watch advertisements, we got ourselves attracted to the product and started to purchase and consume things.
Q2) No I don't think citizen are sufficiently informed about sustainability. However, it's easy to inform them. Firstly, we could use media for advertising and spreading the idea. The most popular in particular, is televisions. Internet is also really good, but I don't think that everyone can afford a computer with access to the Internet. For the content, in the advertisement, tell the audience both the good and the bad side of the products.
Q3) Advertisement tell us about the good side of a product and make us want to purchase it. They make the product very attractive and as a result, we buy the product.

Immigration Assessment

My uncle, immigrated to the US a few years ago. He was pulled to the US by a pull factor. It has greater opportunities, in earning more money and having better education ground for his children. He decided to take this external immigration because to him, Vietnam couldn’t provide the same quality of education. Also, here in Ho Chi Minh City, the economy capital of Vietnam isn’t affordable for him to have a job of his profession that helps him earn more money.
Now, my uncle settled in Philadelphia. He said that he didn’t want to stay in the outskirt area because the urban area where he lives is better for his job. There, his customers come more than the outskirt. The bad thing is that his interactions with his neighbors seem to be difficult. Also, his children forgot some of Vietnamese culture and language. He told me that he miss his homeland, in Vietnam. He misses his family and friends, whom he left behind. But now, he has a much better life than in Vietnam
